It’s business as usual here at the DWTK household. I’ve had interrupted sleep most of the week. I’m juggling getting the kids to daycamp, working, shopping, laundry, and cleaning, much less fielding the endless amounts of questions and whines and complaints from the children. And I was a little cranky today.
Here are the highlights of the week:
Jumpshot started a new camp on Monday. Apparently it was a little too exciting because I had to pick him up at lunch. He had a full-blown migraine, which including him vomiting in a plastic shopping bag in the backseat of the car on the way home. The rest of the week went well with unlimited amounts of Rock Band action at the camp. He’s decided that’s what he’s going to save up his money to buy — until the lure of the goop that makes farting noises overtakes him.
Before that he talked me into buying pranks for him when I made a trip to the party store to buy Diva a grass skirt for her Luau at camp. His reasoning was that it was only fair everyone got something. So he picked out a trick pack of gum that snaps your finger when you pull out a piece. Fun, until he let the next door neighbor pull the trick on Manchild – twice. I had to lecture him on letting his friends hurt his little brother. Not cool, I told him.
Eye therapy is still going well, and we have an evaluation in a couple weeks. We’re still working on the summer reading books. I’ve promised him $5 when the books are read and the reports are complete. That’ll be this weekend’s chore.
This morning, Jumpshot discovered what happens when you get Super Glue on yourself. Luckily he didn’t glue his fingers together. He wanted to know if I knew anyone who had glued their fingers together. I couldn’t think of anyone. Hmmm, maybe no one has confessed that to me.
Diva had a up and down week. Pajama Day was AWESOME, the Luau was fun, but Crazy Day (today) started off rocky.
James told her I could paint her face for Crazy Day. By the time I found out it was too late to do anything about it. I couldn’t do anything right by her today. James had to bribe her with ice cream after camp today to get her to go without too much a fight. Don’t worry though. The camp teachers painted her face, and her world was back in balance.
She also woke me up twice this week in the middle of the night. Let’s hope that trend discontinues.
Manchild’s highlight was uttering the phrase, “Shut your damn mouth,” this week. This wasn’t directed at anyone in particular. He thought it was funny. I had to set him straight. The downside to daycare. But I consoled myself with the fact that at every age, our children are exposed to less desirable words and phrases, and when they are tried out at home, it’s my job to correct it. I can’t protect their ears, but I can correct the notion that a certain word is fine. It’s not.
He also learned a new dangerous stunt today. The older children were nice to come get me to see the “show.” So I had to nip that in the bud too. Why do they think it’s cool for the baby to endanger his life? What are they thinking? Falling from the top bunk to the bottom bunk is no show, it’s an inevitable trip to the emergency room. Now I know why it’s getting harder and harder for me to hide my gray hair.
James’ volleyball team did not win this championship this season, but there’s always next season. The upshot of the week, he and I spent this week shopping for anniversary gifts for each other. We are celebrating our 11th anniversary this weekend. I’ll reveal the presents next week.
School starts in a couple weeks, so I have lots to get done. I always wait until the last minute. If you know me, you’re not surprised. Queen of Procrastination. I still rule.
Thanks for reading!
Sally
