Don't Wake The Kids

And Other Rules for Motherhood

Southern Girl

on December 31, 2009

This week, I’m reposting my favorites from the past year. This one made me laugh, so I had to repost it.

I’ve had inconsistent success in dropping off my daughter at school without tears so far this year. This week though we’ve had a breakthrough, and I have found the key to her heart.

Sausage

Her school serves breakfast, and two mornings this week, we were able to make it to school with enough time for her to get some sausage with a cinnamon roll one day and blueberry pancakes the next.

She was so happy, and she went into her classroom with a smile. For two days, there was pure bliss.

Today I made the mistake of taking a shortcut. God forbid I would actually stock the pancakes and sausage here at the house for her breakfast pleasure. It wasn’t the same, and tears ensued.

Note to self, there is no shortcut to winning over a Southern girl’s heart.

And it involves sausage.
