I’m excited to share this project with you. My daughter’s teacher asked me to make a cake for her son’s first birthday. I have to tell you I was feeling the pressure. I have never made a cake for other people before that wasn’t a gift. This was a whole new territory for me.
- Oink! Oink!
- Cheep! Cheep!
- Baa! Baa!
- On the Farm
- Cake, Cupcakes, and a Smash Cake…Oh My!
- Cupcakes Galore
- I love the chick!
- Happy 1st Birthday, Miles!
The animals are all cakepops. The pigs’ body parts are made of marshmallows cut in half for the legs and snout and quarters for the ears and tails. The chicks wings and beak are rainbow chip sprinkles and theĀ feet are daisy sprinkles. The lambs faces and legs are from a licorice mix I found with the Jelly Belly candies at Target. The sheep’s wool is made from pearl sprinkles and the nose is a heart sprinkle.
The cake is a classic vanilla cake with cream cheese icing. Yummy! I made the fence out of Tootsie Rolls. The cake is covered in green fondant, which James helped me with. I couldn’t have done it without him.
It’s not perfect, but it came out great. Maybe this is the start of new great things for me.

I wondered the same thing. It really doesn’t taste like much. Most people just peel it off. I did find out you can flavor it. I’ll have to give it a try and let you know how it goes.
That cake is awesome! I have always wondered, is the fondant good to eat or is it more just awesome to look at?
I love birthday cake and icing….so I have never tried fondant.
