Don't Wake The Kids

Number One Secret of SuperMoms

Weekly Wrap-Up

January23

Although it was a short week, it was a busy one.

The weekend started with Manchild waking up everyone early on Sunday morning. He’s usually not the first one awake, so I was surprised when he insisted on waking me up. While I fixed his breakfast, he proceeded to wake the other children, going so far as to steal Jumpshot’s blanket. How cruel! James does that to me to wake me up, and it always makes me mad. I’m not a good morning person.

We spent our MLK Day at the dentist. I love our dentist. She is great. They hygienists are professional and make the kids feel at ease. But nothing could console our little Manchild. He worked himself into a frenzy and threw up. They were great at cleaning him up, but a lot of it ended up on me trying to console him. As you can imagine I was pretty much done for the day after that.

But Jumpshot had a basketball game that night, which after our trip to the dentist, completely slipped my mind. James doesn’t understand how that could possibly happen. I have no explanation. I just knew next on my agenda was a grocery store venture after cleaning up Manchild and myself. Despite my brain fart, we all made it to the game, thanks to James. And for once, Diva and Manchild behaved pretty well at the game.

Tuesday, our Jumpshot turned 11. We celebrated with little treats leading up to the big day, cake that night, and a new bike a couple days later. I couldn’t be more prouder of him, and I’m sad that he’s growing up so fast. Jumpshot had another game on Wednesday and then another today.

He’s been slammed with homework this week. Diva’s class celebrated the 100th day of school, and Manchild slept through the night last night.

This week I took some time to take care of myself. I saw a dermatologist for some sun damage on my face. He actually told me I was more susceptible to sun damage because I’m “really, really white.” I could’ve told him that. Although I would have put it in a nicer way. I prefer “really fair.”

James and I had a date night last night. All we did was drop the kids off at the play center and stay home and watch TV uninterrupted. It was a blissful two hours.

That’s pretty much the week. It’s carnival time in Louisiana, so we’ll be going to a parade soon. The weather has warmed up considerably, so the kids have been enjoying some quality outdoor time. Until next week, have some adventures yourself!

Don’t Wake the Kids is a blog featuring Sally and sometimes James, a husband and wife team, talking about their life – the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Together, they will put their life on display, imperfections and all, with the hope that you will find it uplifting, entertaining, and amusing.

About Sally

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a mother. God blessed me with three wonderful children, who keep me going. My husband and I have been married for almost 12 years, and he’s my best friend.

I work full-time outside of the home and try to volunteer as much as I can at my children’s school. I love to bake and accidentally found out about cakepops, and I can’t stop making them. I love to scrapbook, when I find the time, but I’m still intimidated by 12×12 layouts. I also like to crochet, but I’ve only made scarves. I use it to pass the time while waiting at the doctor’s office or practice or for meetings to start.

I try to have it all, and I hope my blog lends support to other moms who mess up, want to pull out their hair, but who wouldn’t want to trade their lives for anything – just like me.

People ask me how do I do it all. I am always flattered by this, and my answer is always the same – I don’t sleep. I only get a lot done after everyone falls asleep. James came up with the name of our blog Don’t Wake The Kids because of my nocturnal nature.
