Don't Wake The Kids

I'm a Supermom and so are you!

A Day Off Is No Picnic

March18

Monday was a sick day. After coughing up a lung for over a couple weeks, I decided it was time to go to the doctor. I planned on making my doctor’s appointment after I dropped the kids off at school.

Once back in the car, my cell phone rang. It was James, and I could hear Manchild’s distinctive seal-like cough. Oh no! He had to go to the pediatrician.

So I drive across town to pick him and back across to get to the pediatrician’s office. We didn’t have to wait long, and Manchild was very good during his exam. Best of all, he didn’t need a shot.

So then it was off to the store to grocery shop and pick up his prescription. Two hours later, we ran through the drive-through for some lunch and then home to eat and put up groceries. I answered my work email for half an hour and then loaded us in the car to see my doctor.

I like my doctor very much; however, an appointment usually takes at least two hours. Manchild fell asleep in the car on the way there, and I had to wake him up. Surprisingly, he didn’t wake up grumpy and was very well-behaved at the doctor’s office. But the best part of it was that it only took an hour – even with lab work!

He sat next to me while I got my blood drawn, and I thought he would freak out, but he didn’t. The nurse’s hands, however, were shaking. So I braced myself for a nasty prick, but she did very well too. It didn’t hurt a bit.

We left there and went back to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription. While we were waiting, I ran into a friend from high school I haven’t seen in over 10 years (but stalks my blog). Hi, Steph! While I was talking with her, Manchild asked to be picked up. All of sudden he went limp in my arms. Why is that a sleeping child is twice as heavy in your arms? All 51 pounds of him.

Prescription in hand, it was another car trip, this time to school to pick up Diva and Jumpshot. When I finally got home, it was 5:30 p.m. So much for getting some extra rest. Looking back on the day though, it wasn’t that bad. But let’s hope for no more sick days for a while, ok?

Don’t Wake the Kids is a blog featuring Sally and sometimes James, a husband and wife team, talking about their life – the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Together, they will put their life on display, imperfections and all, with the hope that you will find it uplifting, entertaining, and amusing.

About Sally

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a mother. God blessed me with three wonderful children, who keep me going. My husband and I have been married for 12 years, and he’s my best friend.

I work full-time outside of the home and try to volunteer as much as I can at my children’s school. I love to bake and accidentally found out about cakepops, and I can’t stop making them. I love to scrapbook, when I find the time. I also like to crochet, but I’ve only made scarves. I use it to pass the time while waiting at the doctor’s office or practice or for meetings to start.

I try to have it all, and I hope my blog lends support to other moms who mess up, want to pull out their hair, but who wouldn’t want to trade their lives for anything – just like me.

People ask me how do I do it all. I am always flattered by this, and my answer is always the same – I don’t sleep. I only get a lot done after everyone falls asleep. James came up with the name of our blog Don’t Wake The Kids because of my nocturnal nature.
