Getting into the Routine

108 Featuring a free downloadable file!

We’re into the third week of school already, and we’re still adjusting. We’ve already had projects and tests. Add football practice/coaching and PTO volunteering, and James’ and my full-time jobs, and it all adds to stress. All this stress makes me feel like I’m on a rollercoaster.

To combat the stresses of our days, my plan is to establish routines and habits. I’m guilty of starting a routine gung-ho and then allow myself to get distracted from it whenever there is a snag in the timing of the day.

For instance, I wanted to get in the habit of starting a load of laundry as soon as I got home. But I completely forget about it when the kids and I barrel through the door at 7 p.m. Then it’s a rush to get homework done, cook supper, eat, check homework, do the dishes, and get everyone to bed.

I keep telling my son that it’s impossible to remember everything and that writing it down is the only way of making sure you remember what you’re supposed to do. So today I’m taking the time to write my routine down and post it in a place I will see it. Maybe my morning routine needs to be in the bathroom and my evening one in the kitchen.

I’ve also made a routine chart for the kids that includes pictures and areas for stickers. As a special treat, you can download DWTK Child’s Daily Routine free! If you want the customizable Excel file, you can purchase it for only $5, and I will email it to you. Use the PayPal button for this option.

Let me know how well the charts work for you. Here’s hoping for less stress for my family and yours!
