Show of hands, how many of you know you can raise money for your school by cleaning up the environment?

It’s true. Our school has partnered with TerraCycle to collect products the company will upcycle into products to sell. In turn, TerraCycle pays our school for each piece we send.

Collection begins at the school. Several bins have been set up in the cafeteria for the children to dispose of their drink pouches, chip bags, and cookie wrappers. I found out TerraCycle takes all kinds of products. Check it out.

Make a difference for both your school and the environment.

Project Update Monday

April5
I had a great time this weekend. I hope you did too. Here’s a look at the crafts and baking I conquered over the last few days.
001 Here’s another layout I completed for the vacation album. This one is titled Rock Stars and features pictures from our rock-skipping adventures.
Remember the cupcake mold my husband bought me for Valentine’s Day? I finally baked a cupcake cake. Here’s an Easter surprise cake.

It was a golden vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting. I decorated with edible grass (which the all the kids decided was disgusting), jelly beans, peeps, and pink frosting.

It was delicious!

I come from a family of chocoholics, so I had to make a chocolate desert as well. I have to admit I got a little lazy. I started to make cakepops and got the crumbled cake all mixed with the icing. But I ran out of steam.

So I spread the mixture in a jellyroll pan. Then I melted vanilla candy wafers down and created a white chocolate rabbit to put on top.

It’s fudgy goodness, I promise! I ate a ton of it yesterday.

Keep creating!

Here’s a look at what I’ve found interesting this week:

James and I had a wonderful date night. We tried a different restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. Lucy’s Retired Surfers has something for everyone. We even saw kids there. (The kids meal drinks are served with crazy straws. How cool is that?)

We saw all kinds of groups of patrons – families, girls night out, mothers and daughters, and group dates. It was a fun place.

Have you seen Scrabble tile necklaces? I think they are adorable. I found a tutorial on how to make them at Make and Takes. It doesn’t seem complicated. Maybe I’ll give it a try one day.

I LOVE this hedgehog pendant from HomeStudio. Check out the Etsy store. There are lots of cute stuff!

Enjoy your Sunday!

Don’t Wake the Kids is a blog featuring Sally and sometimes James, a husband and wife team, talking about their life – the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Together, they will put their life on display, imperfections and all, with the hope that you will find it uplifting, entertaining, and amusing.

About Sally

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a mother. God blessed me with three wonderful children, who keep me going. My husband and I have been married for almost 12 years, and he’s my best friend.

I work full-time outside of the home and try to volunteer as much as I can at my children’s school. I love to bake and accidentally found out about cakepops, and I can’t stop making them. I love to scrapbook, when I find the time, but I’m still intimidated by 12×12 layouts. I also like to crochet, but I’ve only made scarves. I use it to pass the time while waiting at the doctor’s office or practice or for meetings to start.

I try to have it all, and I hope my blog lends support to other moms who mess up, want to pull out their hair, but who wouldn’t want to trade their lives for anything – just like me.

People ask me how do I do it all. I am always flattered by this, and my answer is always the same – I don’t sleep. I only get a lot done after everyone falls asleep. James came up with the name of our blog Don’t Wake The Kids because of my nocturnal nature.
