Cricut Cake

I finally got to a class/event I paid for at Scrapbook & Co.! This class was a very special class: How to use your Cricut to decorate a cake.

Two lovely sisters taught us the necessary techniques to make professional-looking cakes.

I can’t wait to get creating!

This weekend, we celebrated Diva’s 7th birthday. Here’s the cake I made.

Our wonderful friend Milet gave Diva a cupcake cake mold for her birthday. Here it is in the oven, baking a delicious, buttery yellow cake.

I put it together and covered it in vanilla frosting.

But it needs a little something. I just happened to have some fondant and flower shaped cookie cutters.

Voila! A cute cake for a cutie pie!

Thanks to Manchild and Diva for helping me make and decorate the cake.

Over the weekend, I tackled the chore that stresses me out the most – cleaning the fish tank. I traumatized one of the fish the last time I cleaned out the tank, and it took him almost a week to recover. I worried about him constantly, and I just didn’t think I could handle it again.

Our two Bettas live harmoniously in a small tank with a divider. Swimmy-Blue-Fin (his name changes a lot) would spend a lot of time flaring at Bubbles, who began flaring back. James thought this was too stressful for the fish, and he suggested separate tanks for them.

It so happens that I had two clear plastic boxes that I got as a kind of party favor at the last all-day crop. I had a feeling they would make perfect homes for our pets. Wouldn’t you know, it worked out tremendously. The transfer went very smoothly, and no signs of trauma. I think they like their new homes. What a relief!

I am crazy for Scrabble Tile Necklaces. I helped the Kindergarten classes make Scrabble Tile Necklaces with their thumbprints for Mother’s Day. Here’s the process.

Materials:

Assorted Scrabble Tiles
Cardstock
Epoxy Seals
Small Bails
Ink
Mod Podge
Super Glue or E6000
Chains (We used ball chains.)
Organza Bags (for gift giving)

Step One: Get thumbprints. I had the children pick out a color to use. Gold was surprisingly the favorite, followed by silver. I took three sets of prints and picked the best one.
Step Two: Cover the fingerprint with an epoxy seal.	Step Three: Cut the cardstock out to fit the Scrabble Tile and use the Mod Podge to adhere the cardstock to the tile.
Step Four: Glue the bail to the tile. Many sites recommend using E6000. The bail is what turns the tile into a pendant. Let it dry overnight.
Step Five: Put your pendant on a chain and enjoy! I got all my supplies off Etsy. Just search Scrabble Tile under Supplies.
