Weekly Update

May22

I can’t believe I’ve been away from my blog for so long. We’ve been busy busy. First there was Mother’s Day. I got two naps that day, and a Flip camera. Now I can add video to my blog!

From then on, it was Teacher’s Appreciation Week, PTO meeting, Field Days, hiring a new employee at work, Summer Camp registration, and the dreaded stomach flu. Nothing can prepare you for the startling sound of your kid puking in his sheets. My poor washing machine.

On Jumpshot’s recommendation, I started reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympian’s series. It’s pretty good. In fact I can’t believe how much I got sucked in. Currently I’m reading The  7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens in preparation of the trials and tribulations of 6th grade. Maybe it’ll help me too. I have some habits I acquired as a teenager that I could change.

So summer’s officially begun. The temperatures are creeping in the mid-90’s, so the kids played in the water hoses all day. Our a/c hasn’t stopped all day.

In the spirit of catching you up on all my projects, here’s my inaugural video.

I made scrapbooks for our awesome Kindergarten teachers. The video is me flipping through the books for you. Enjoy!

Project Update Monday

April11

006 My priority this weekend was tackling Mount Washmore and some paperwork. So I didn’t get any crafting done. But I know Teacher’s Appreciation Week and Mother’s Day are coming up. So I’m going to start making apple and pastel flower cakepops. Take a look at the cakepop page for pictures. The pastel flowers would be similar to the Valentine’s Day flowers. Email me if you are interested at sally@dwtkcast.com.

I haven’t had much of a chance to craft lately, but I pulled out our vacation pictures in hopes to scrap.

It’s not much, but it’s a start.

Project Update Monday

March1

001 If you saw my Weekly Wrap-Up post, you know that Jumpshot had Science Fair last week. I used my Cricut to make the titles. Then I cut cardstock into strips to make the Tic-Tac-Toe boards.
002 I used Thickers for the Xs and Os. I had to get a little creative because I only had one package of Thickers. So I made Xs out of asterisks and Os out of Ds and 9s.
Let me know what you’ve been creating lately.

Project Update Monday

February15
008 A couple weeks ago, I hosted my very first giveaway of a dozen Valentine cakepops. I made them out of red velvet cake and creamy vanilla icing. Then I coated them in red candy coating and constructed flowers out of Valentine Candy Corn and M&Ms.
011 Then I had to decide how to deliver them. I had to decide how to package them, which is a constant dilemma for me. I just so happened to have a pail I bought months ago to scrapbook with. It’ll be perfect!
017 I think it came out nicely. Plus it gave me a chance to finally use the Cricut – besides cutting out animals for my kids. I was so happy to give it a good home.
Last week, I took Diva and Manchild to paint pottery. This week, I got to pick up our finished pieces.
040 Diva painted a mug. She’s ready for some hot chocolate.
038 Manchild painted a castle box. I’m hoping he doesn’t break it too soon.
034 And I painted a cupcake plate. It’s going to be perfect to serve a cupcake.
028 Finally, James gave me a great Valentine’s Day present. A giant cupcake cake mold and a book about craft blogging. I can’t wait to read it. I promise I’ll share the tips I learn.
Here’s to another great week!

Don’t Wake the Kids is a blog featuring Sally and sometimes James, a husband and wife team, talking about their life – the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Together, they will put their life on display, imperfections and all, with the hope that you will find it uplifting, entertaining, and amusing.

About Sally

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a mother. God blessed me with three wonderful children, who keep me going. My husband and I have been married for almost 12 years, and he’s my best friend.

I work full-time outside of the home and try to volunteer as much as I can at my children’s school. I love to bake and accidentally found out about cakepops, and I can’t stop making them. I love to scrapbook, when I find the time, but I’m still intimidated by 12×12 layouts. I also like to crochet, but I’ve only made scarves. I use it to pass the time while waiting at the doctor’s office or practice or for meetings to start.

I try to have it all, and I hope my blog lends support to other moms who mess up, want to pull out their hair, but who wouldn’t want to trade their lives for anything – just like me.

People ask me how do I do it all. I am always flattered by this, and my answer is always the same – I don’t sleep. I only get a lot done after everyone falls asleep. James came up with the name of our blog Don’t Wake The Kids because of my nocturnal nature.
