On Friday, the 1st grade classes hosted a tea for their mothers and grandmothers. As part of their presents to us, they each made a book about their moms. Kids do say the funniest things. Here’s Diva’s book about me.
“You make great tacoes. And I love you. You are a perfect mom. You are the best mom in the world. Thank you for letting me have fun all day everyday.”
James does the bulk of the cooking, but one thing I make is tacos. Apparently they are the best.
“My moms name is Sally. She is in between her 30s and 40s. The color of her hair is brown and gray. Her eyes are as blue as blueberrys.”
I had to laugh at this. My hair is indeed brown and gray because I am in the process of growing out my silver. I also love that she compared my eyes to blueberries.
“My moms likes the color blue. She likes Harry potter.”
She knows me well.
“My mom likes to go scrap booking with her friends. She always hangs out there. I wish I could go there.”
She wants to go to a crop so badly. I keep telling her when she gets older.
“My mom is a good cook. I like what my mom cooks. But I realy like is her tacos.”
The tacos are so good they get two mentions in the book!
“I went to the beach with my mom. we had fun. It was too hot to stay. I love going to the beach with my mom. We played in the water and sang songs.”
This is the funniest part of the book. We went to the beach. Once. When she was almost 3. We drove 2 hours to the beach. We could see the thunderstorms rolling in when we got there, but we got out and played anyway. We were there for a total of 20 minutes. I promise you there was no singing. I remember a lot of whining. The rain started, and we packed up and drove home. I find it hilarious that she remembers it so differently.
“I have the world’s bests mom because she helps me with art. She is a great cook. And”
“she is so brave. I love my mom so so so much.”
Sweet, sweet Diva. I appreciate that she likes my cooking (the little I do) and that I am brave (even though I’m not). To my young children, I am great at everything. How much longer will that last?
It was a wonderful tea. Each student was placed in front of mom and performed songs and read from their books. It was very heartwarming, and I came very close to shedding a tear. Then they served us cookies and tea and gave us their presents – a clay pot they decoupaged with tissue paper and their artistic renditions of mom. I’ll treasure them always.
Hope you’re having precious memories today! Happy Mother’s Day!
