Ready for Flag Football

We signed the boys up for flag football, and their jamboree was yesterday. It’s our first time playing in this league, but no matter. The boys were excited as can be.

Manchild We arrived for 9 a.m. as instructed and signed in the boys and found out where they needed to go. We met Manchild’s coach and got him all set with his jersey and flags. The league is structured so that practice is for one hour, followed by a game for one hour. Although it makes for a long Saturday, it’s nice that everything is contained to one day.

We found ourselves a little unprepared though. There weren’t bleachers near the field, so I took Diva to the store to buy some chairs and coloring books to entertain her and Manchild later. When we returned I saw Jumpshot and Manchild making their way to the restrooms. When the boys returned, Manchild was in hysterics! Poor little guy got locked in his stall. Thank goodness Jumpshot was there to rescue him.

However, the whole event was a bit traumatizing to Manchild, and he was in no longer in the mood to play. He hung his head, poked out his bottom lip, and wouldn’t participate. After some coaxing, a little Gatorade, some mommy snuggles, and a little bribery, he went out on the field for a couple plays. We sat near some very supportive parents, and we all cheered when he came off the field. He said he would go back. And he did play the entire second half. I’m so proud he overcame his fears!

Jumpshot Jumpshot’s game was right after Manchild’s. He played very well. He’s been playing football for seven years now. I can’t believe it’s been that long. It just seems like yesterday we were watching him play flag football for the first time.

Jumpshot had some great catches and even scored a touchdown and a 2-point conversion!

After the games, we had lunch and then went to the park.  From there, we went home to a nice cool house. Then Manchild and I took a much-needed three-hour nap!

Although I am sunburned, it was a great Saturday. Many memories were made, and isn’t that what family time is all about? Enjoy the slideshow I made of our Saturday. Thanks!
