Am I the only mom who doesn’t sit through dinner?
We went out to eat for lunch today. We ordered, got our food, and sat down. Then began the drink shuffle. Fix kids’ drinks, get lids, drop them off to the kids, fix my drink, then give James his cup to fix his, and then sit down to eat.
A quarter of the way into my salad, Manchild needs to use the bathroom. So I take him to the bathroom. When we return, everyone else has mostly finished their meals.
Usually I take Diva first, and then when we return to the table, Manchild decides he needs to go. Thus I end up spending half the night in the bathroom.
How funny is that!

When James and I were first married, we lived in a one-bedroom apartment. We had a little furniture, a computer, and a car. We didn’t have a TV for a long time, but we had a stereo. It was the simplest of times and our fondest memories.
I’m still clueless on how to simplify my life. I have a husband, three kids, work, volunteering, a house, two fish, and a hedgehog. So I decided to think of when my life was simple. My thoughts started with when James and I were first married.
One thing that made our life so simple then was the lack of stuff. Now we have more stuff than we know what to do with. I’m constantly stepping on, over, and through stuff. It’s been like this for so long I don’t even notice it anymore. It’s like visual white noise.
So my first gift to myself and my family is to simplify our stuff.
It might take me all year, but it’s a step.
How is everyone doing on carrying out your themes for 2011? Have you taken your first step? Don’t despair. I’m taking my first step with you. We can do it. We are Super!
